In a grand Diwali celebration that brought together Indian traditions and modern vocational skills, Scope Global Skills University (SGSU) in Misrod hosted the “Diwali Skills Wali” exhibition and fair. The event was inaugurated on Friday by MLA Rameshwar Sharma, with a diverse range of exhibitions, workshops, cultural performances, and activities aimed at showcasing the skills and innovations of the university’s students and faculty.
In his opening address, MLA Mr.Rameshwar Sharma emphasized the importance of skill development and praised the “Diwali Skills Wali” initiative, recommending that future editions be extended to 3-4 days to allow greater participation from local businesses. He encouraged attendees to support indigenous crafts, urging them to bring light to the Diwali season by purchasing handmade goods from local artisans. The event began with a warm welcome by SGSU Registrar Dr. Sitesh Kumar Sinha, followed by Chancellor Dr. Siddharth Chaturvedi, who outlined the event’s objectives. Dr. Ajay Bhushan, Vice Chancellor of SGSU, highlighted the university’s focus on skill-based learning and its role in empowering students with practical expertise. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Tina Tiwari, Dean of Humanities and Liberal Arts.
Ethnic Fashion Showcase
The first day’s highlight was an ethnic fashion show where 40 students and 14 faculty members graced the ramp, dressed in traditional attire representing various Indian states. The show displayed Maharashtrian sarees, Patiala salwar suits reflecting Punjabi culture, red and white Bengali sarees, and lungi-shirt combinations emblematic of Tamil Nadu, celebrating India’s rich cultural diversity.
Scope Defence Academy Inauguration
The event also saw the formal inauguration of the Scope Defence Academy, a collaborative initiative with Nisham Academy. Chief guest Maj. Gen. Sharad Srivastava, alongside Retired Maj. Gen. Shyam Srivastava and university dignitaries, emphasized the importance of skill-based training, especially for youth interested in joining the armed forces. He noted the potential of the Scope Défence Academy to boost participation from Madhya Pradesh in the armed forces and contribute to the nation’s defence capabilities.
Day Two: A Celebration of Skills and Innovation
The second day welcomed Ms. Krishna Gour, BJP MLA, as the chief guest. She explored each department’s stalls, experiencing various skill displays and workshops organized by different university faculties:
The Army Weapon Show, with exhibits of grenade launchers, rocket launchers, sniper rifles, and medium machine guns, remained a focal attraction throughout the event, complemented by other exhibits showcasing handicrafts, Dhakai and Jamdani sarees, scented candles, and home decor items.
Festive Finale
The event concluded with vibrant performances, including singing and dancing by students and faculty, followed by a closing performance by the Army band. Students and faculty celebrated with traditional Diwali food, with stalls offering a variety of dishes like Aloo Twisters, Vadapav, Panipuri, and Chinese bhel. The grand finale was marked by everyone dancing and enjoying the festive atmosphere, embodying the spirit of the Diwali Skills Wali exhibition.
The “Diwali Skills Wali” exhibition successfully showcased the convergence of traditional Indian culture and contemporary skills, highlighting the university’s commitment to holistic education and the promotion of both cultural and modern competencies.
